Friday night, Providence Day’s football team beat Ardren Christ School 42-25 to win its seventh straight game and improve to 8-1 on the season.

The Chargers are within one win of the 12-year-old single-season school record, and they are within one win of the Big South private school conference championship. Moving into the Observer Sweet 16 poll this week, Providence Day will play rival Charlotte Christian Friday for the title at home on Senior Night.

Christian, which is 7-1, is ranked No. 4 in the Sweet 16. Providence Day is No. 16.

▪ There wasn’t much action elsewhere in the poll. Hickory Ridge’s thrilling overtime win over Butler, moved the Ragin’ Bulls up one spot to No. 8. Butler fell from No. 5 to No. 9
