Sun Valley High football standout Sam Howell will participate in the 2018 Elite 11 quarterback camp.
The nation’s top rising senior high school quarterbacks will attend the camp June 1-3 in Los Angeles. The players will receive advanced one-on-one instruction in a competitive setting. The free camp includes on-field drills, classroom instruction and off-field development.
According to the Elite 11 website, 11 of the past 12 quarterbacks to have won the Heisman Trophy and 15 of the top 20 NFL passers in 2017 attended the Elite 11 Finals or an Elite 11 Regional.
Howell will be the first area star to play in the Elite 11 finals since Davidson Day's Will Grier in 2013. Grier is now the starting quarterback at West Virginia.
Howell, who is 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, has thrown for 10,175 yards and 109 touchdowns in his first three seasons. He is No. 8 in N.C. High School Athletic Association history in career yardage, and is seventh in career touchdown passes.
Howell, who took a visit to Florida State last week, is the No. 3 overall recruit in North Carolina, according to rivals. He is the No. 5 pro-style quarterback recruit nationally and is ranked No. 134 overall among all players.
