Lake Norman’s performance in a Florida tournament this week will do nothing to hurt the team’s national stature in high school baseball.

The Wildcats, ranked 16th nationally earlier in the week by USA Today, won three of four games in the IMG Academy National Classic in Bradenton, Fla.

They finished the week Friday with a 10-7 triumph over Scott County (Tenn.). Earlier in the tournament, the Wildcats topped teams from Ohio and California. Their only loss was to Florida power Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest.

Lake Norman (14-2) got a three-run double from Carson Arnold and two RBI from Vance Anderson in Friday’s game. Five Wildcats had two hits.

Lake Norman returns to I-Meck 4A action Tuesday at home against Vance. The Wildcats also have a tough nonconference game at home Wednesday against Alexander Central (13-2).
