Providence's girls and Ardrey Kell's boys won N.C. 4A Western Regional track championships Saturday in Charlotte.
The Panthers' girls had 124 points, well ahead of Mallard Creek (101) and Ardrey Kell (74).
The Knights' boys had 95.33 points. Olympic (75) was second and Mallard Creek (74) was third.
Individually, West Meck sprinter Khafre Brown won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. North Meck's Chancelor Crawford won the discus and shot put. The champion Knights got championships from its 3,200 relay team.
On the girls side, Providence got 200-meters and 300 hurdles titles from Ariana Rivera, a 400-meters title from Ella Mainwaring Foster and a 1,600-meter championship run from Sarah Parrish. Providence also won the 800- and 1,600-meter relay titles. Providence's Maggie McCarter won the pole vault.
▪ Rocky River's Christopher Alexander (long jump) was the lone Mecklenburg County athlete to win a N.C. 4A Midwest regional championship. Three girls won individual events: Rocky RIver's Mariah Atwater (400 meters), Independence's Laikyn Berry (high jump) and Rocky River's Jirah Sidberry was a double winner (long jump, triple jump).
Rocky RIver's girls 800-meter relay team also won a championship.
▪ In the 1A Midwest, Albemarle's boys won the team title with 96 points, clearly past Community School of Davidson (72). Albemarle dominated the relays and got two sprint wins from Julius Smith in the 100- and 200-meters.
▪ In the 2A Midwest regionals, Lake Norman Charter girls got two relay team wins and long distance running wins from Mariah Howlett and Izzy Evely to win the team title. Forest Hills boys took the championship behind long jump and triple jump champ Scott McClendon.
▪ North Lincoln won the boys and girls 2A West titles. The boys tallied 87 points, well ahead of second place Franklin (66.5). The girls finished with 108 points, dominating the field. Franklin (66) was second.
▪ Two Union County teams won 3A West regional titles. Marvin Ridge's boys won the 3A West championship with a total of 91 points. Asheville was second. Waxhaw Cuthbertson ran off to the girls title with 130 total points, well ahead of second place Skyland Roberson (92).
