A couple of new national recruiting lists came out this week, and two N.C. high school stars landed at the top.

Rivals ranks Wake Forest lineman Dexter Lawrence the nation’s top high school football player. ESPN has Harry Giles of High Point Wesleyan’s nationally ranked basketball team as the nation’s top recruit in basketball.

Lawrence led his team to the N.C. 4AA state championship game last season where it lost to Mallard Creek for the second straight season. He is a 6-foot-5, 335-pound defensive tackle. Rivals ranks Lawrence a five-star prospect (out of five stars) and says he has offers from schools in the SEC, ACC, Pac-10 and Big 10. That list includes Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, North Carolina, N.C. State and South Carolina.

Last season, Lawrence had 55 tackles, 10 sacks and 25 other tackles for a loss.

Giles, 6-foot-10 and 230 pounds, led High Point Wesleyan to the N.C. Independent Schools state championship game last season, where it lost to nationally ranked Greensboro Day. Giles was the only junior to make USA Today’s All-USA first team last season after averaging 23 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game.

A versatile power forward who can handle the ball and shoot with easy 3-point range, Giles recently had in-home visits with coaches from Duke and Kentucky. Coaches from North Carolina and Wake Forest visited him at school. Giles has offers from those schools as well as Kansas, Syracuse and UNLV. He said he could make a college decision before his senior year.
