Mallard Creek High wide receiver Ryan Jones, a 6-foot-2, 202-pound junior, committed to North Carolina Friday morning, Mavericks football coach Mike Palmieri said.

Jones is rated a 4-star recruit nationally by ESPN (out of five stars) and is ranked No. 4 overall in North Carolina. Earlier this month, North Carolina received a commitment from Cuthbertson wide receiver J.T. Cauthen, another 4-star recruit, rated No. 3 in the state by ESPN.

Last season, Jones caught 23 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. He ran for 127 yards and a score. He was an All-MECKA conference pick.

“He’s a great football player,” Palmieri said. “He’s great on both sides of the ball. He plays corner and wide receiver. He has the whole package. His speed and strength is impressive and his ball skills are phenomenal. He’s aggressive. Man, he’s pretty much the whole package.”
