All-Observer 2014: Boys golf

First Team

Patrick Cover, Hough, Sr.: UNC Wilmington signee capped his high school career with a 4A state individual title in storybook fashion, winning in a playoff with a tap-in birdie.

Will Blalock, Forestview, Sr.: Jaguars’ standout, N.C. State signee holed out an eagle on the final hole to win the 3A state individual title by two shots, while helping his team to its third straight 3A state crown.

Aaron Walker, Charlotte Christian, Jr.: Had an NCISAA 3A state tournament that he will never forget, shooting 69-69 to win the NCISAA state championship. He’s also a Division I recruit, according to his coach, Mike Nedrow.

Jonathan Henry, SouthLake Christian, Sr.: Two-time Metrolina Athletic conference (MAC) champion. Gardner-Webb signee just off the pace behind Walker with a 69-70 to finish as NCISAA 3A state runner-up.

Archer Price, Gaston Day, Sr.: 2013 NCISAA 1A/2A state champion, a Georgia Southern signee, was one spot from a state title. He finished as state runner-up,

Nick Stafford, South Point, Sr.: 3A West Regional champion won in dramatic fashion in a playoff. He tied for 3A state runner-up (74-70).

Eric Edwards, Salisbury, Sr.: 2A state runner-up, also 2A Midwest Regional runner-up, Central Carolinas conference champion, player of the year and Rowan County champion. He’s a George Mason signee.

Harrison Frye, Forestview, Sr.: Big South conference champion finished as 3A West Regional runner-up (lost in playoff to Stafford) fourth at states. He’s a Coastal Carolina signee.

David Kocher, Charlotte Christian, Sr.: Three-time all-state performer. Maryland signee finish fourth at states (72-70) and fourth in CISAA conference championships.

Alex Hefner, Newton Conover, Sr.: 2013 2A individual state champion finished seventh at states. He’s also a two-time Southern District 7 player of the year and High Point signee.

Trey Burton, Newton Conover, Jr.: Two-time Catawba County individual champion also took seventh at states. Burton, a 2A Midwest Regional runner-up, has interest from several colleges, according to coach John Echerd.

Elliott Grayson, Shelby, Sr.: Akron signee and two-time South Mountain Athletic conference player of the year. He finished third at 2A state meet.
