Charlotte-Area High School Football Players of the Week 09.29.14

Christian McPhail, Independence: Junior quarterback filled in for starter Kelvin Hopkins in Friday’s 38-0 win over East Mecklenburg. He led Independence scoring drives on its first three possessions. He threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns.

James Smith, Mallard Creek: Junior QB was 18-for-26 for 244 yards and six touchdowns in Friday’s 56-27 win over West Charlotte. The touchdown passes are one off the school record set by Marquise Williams in 2010 and the fifth-most in Mecklenburg County history. Smith is the eighth county QB to throw six TD passes in a game.

Josh Ladowski, Lake Norman: Rushed 13 times for 104 yards and a score in a 49-26 win over Alexander Central. He completed 18-of-27 passes for 356 yards and five scores.

Cody Reece, Mount Pleasant: 28 carries for 280 yards and two scores in a 31-15 win over Carson.

Akease Rankin, Mooresville: Ran 24 times for 198 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-12 win over Statesville.

Chazz Surratt, East Lincoln: Went 15-for-21 for 352 yards in a 48-17 win over Bandys. Ran seven times for 19 yards and another score.
