James Smith, Mallard Creek: Second straight week in the overall Player of the Week spot. Smith led his team’s second straight fourth quarter comeback in a row in last week’s 29-22 win over Vance. The quarterback had 14 carries for 71 yards and the game-winning touchdown and two-point conversion. He completed 9-of-21 passes for 146 yards and a score.
Elijah Deveaux, Charlotte Christian: Ran 26 times for 284 yards and a touchdown in a 34-17 win over rival Charlotte Country Day. Deveaux has 534 yards in the past two weeks.
Chris Holmes, South Iredell: In a 54-35 win over county rival North Iredell, Holmes ran 21 times for 256 yards and three touchdowns. In his past three games, Holmes has 760 yards.
Jack Fording and Grant Bushinski, SouthLake Christian: In a 30-25 win over rival Metrolina Christian on Friday, the two linebackers had big games. Fording had 18 tackles and a sack, including 10 solo tackles. Bushinki had 10 solo tackles, 13 total and three sacks.
Jeff Glenn, Ashbrook: In a 42-29 win over rival East Gaston, Glenn ran 11 times for 55 yards and five scores. He completed 26-of-41 passes for 331 yards and another score. He also had five kickoff returns for 87 yards and a score. On defense, he had an interception that was returned 29 yards. He finished with 502 all-purpose yards.
