Green Hope dethrones Ardrey Kell for girls’ 4A state golf title

Two-time N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A girls’ golf champion Ardrey Kell wasn’t able to three-peat Tuesday.

The Knights finished third at Pinehurst No. 1 Tuesday, with a two-day team total of 500. Cary Green Hope (483) won with Southern Pines Pinecrest (492) second. Charlotte Catholic (537) was 11th. Individually, Raleigh Athens Drive’s Jennifer Chang shot an even-par 70 Tuesday and had a two-day total of 144 to win medalist honors. She won by two shots over Fuquay-Varina’s Catherine Ashworth.

Lake Norman’s Kathryn Carson (154) tied for sixth, and Ardrey Kell’s Alexis Whitney tied for eighth (155).

• In 1A/2A, Salisbury’s Grace Yatawara shot a 73 Tuesday at Foxfire Village to win the two-day championship. Yatawara had a two-day total of 145, 1-over-par. Teammate Isabella Rusher, who won the title in 2011 and 2012, was second (147). Mount Pleasant’s Danielle Mirovich (167) was fifth. Salisbury won the team title, 42 strokes ahead of second-place Avery County.



• In 3A, Marvin Ridge finished runner-up to Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons at Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines. Lee County’s Siranon Shoomee won for the second straight year with a two-day score of 138, 6-under par. Marvin Ridge’s Ahra Ko (153) was fifth and teammate Morgan Laird (154) tied for sixth.
