Observer’s Sweet 16 football poll .for 11.05.14

The top seven spots in the Sweet 16 didn’t change this week, but there could be a big shift after this week’s games.

No. 1 Independence is at No. 2 Butler. No. 6 Mooresville faces Lake Norman (9-1) on the road. No. 12 Providence is at No. 5 Charlotte Catholic. Each of those games will help determine a conference championship. And there’s another Sweet 16 matchup this week that won’t determine a champion, but will decide the No. 2 seed in the MECKA 8: No. 10 Hough at No. 8 Vance.

No. 2 Mallard Creek has a one-game lead on Vance and Hough and also has a share of the league title. The Mavericks can clinch outright with a win over North Mecklenburg, leaving Vance and Hough to play for second, which could make a big difference in each schools’ playoff road.
