Independence (10-0, 5-0 Southwestern 4A) at Butler (9-1, 5-0), Fri, 7: Mecklenburg County’s top rivalry resumes with the Southwestern 4A championship – and a No. 1 playoff seed – hanging in the balance. Butler has won the past eight meetings. Independence hasn’t won this rivalry game since 2008.

Charlotte Catholic (9-1, 6-0) at Providence (8-2, 5-1 SoMeck 8 4A), Fri, 7: Catholic has won 36 straight conference games and hasn’t lost since falling 21-14 to Olympic in 2009. The Cougars can clinch the conference title with a win. Providence can clinch a share of the title and tie for the school’s most wins since 2006.

South Mecklenburg (8-2, 5-1 SoMeck 8 4A) at Ardrey Kell (7-3, 4-2), Fri, 7: South Meck still can get a share of the championship with a win – and a Providence win over Charlotte Catholic. Ardrey Kell can improve its playoff positioning with an upset.

Mooresville (10-0, 6-0 North Piedmont 3A/4A) at Lake Norman (9-1, 6-0): Lake Norman has won seven straight since a 35-31 loss Sept. 5 at Hough. Mooresville hasn’t had a close game. Iredell County’s No. 1 rivalry game will decide the conference championship.
