Mecklenburg County Prep Basketball Thanksgiving Tournaments

There are two holiday basketball tournaments Friday and Saturday in Mecklenburg County: the Leroy Holden Thanksgiving tournament at North Mecklenburg and the Charlotte Hoops Challenge at Myers Park.

No. 2 Ardrey Kell girls vs. No. 3 Providence Day, Fri., 5:30 p.m. at Myers Park: The Knights are a state championship contender in 4A public schools but have lost early-season showdowns to No. 1 Myers Park and No. 4 Weddington.

Victory Christian boys vs. No. 4 Lake Norman, Sat., 2:30 p.m. at Myers Park: Victory Christian has three players at 6-foot-10 or so and is a private school state title favorite. Lake Norman has two at 6-10 and is a public school 4A favorite. Victory Christian has 6-10 Charlotte commit Ebuka Izundu. Lake Norman has 6-6 Davidson commit Kishawn Pritchett.

No. 1 Myers Park girls vs. No. 4 Weddington, Sat., 5:30 p.m. at Myers Park: Two of the nation’s top point guards meet in a battle of 4A (Myers Park) and 3A (Weddington) N.C. title contenders. Myers Park’s Aliyah Mazyck has signed with Southern Cal. Weddington’s Stephanie Watts is a North Carolina recruit.

No. 4 Hough boys vs. No. 6 Providence Day, Sat., 7 p.m.: Another battle between public and private school state championship contenders. It also features two of the state’s best big men: Hough’s Luke Maye, a North Carolina recruit, and Providence Day junior Grant Williams.

Abdul Ado, Hamilton Heights (Tenn.): 6-11 junior is the No. 4-rated center in the Class of 2016.

Lavar Batts, Robinson: Made MaxPreps freshman All-American team and set school freshman scoring record (425 points)

ZaQwaun Matthews, Myers Park: all-conference star will play at Chattanooga

Aliyah Mazyck, Myers Park: Southern Cal recruit ranked among the nation’s top 50 girls’ players.

Luke Maye, Hough: North Carolina recruit ranks 72nd nationally, according to national scout Bob Gibbons.

Kishawn Pritchett, Lake Norman: Davidson recruit led his team to N.C. 4A final last season.

Daniel Relvao, Mountain Mission: Valparaiso recruit played for Portugal U18 national team.

DD Rogers, Myers Park: N.C. State recruit was most valuable player of the 2013 N.C. 4A girls’ championship game.

Steven Santa Ana, Ardrey Kell: Elon recruit is among state’s top-ranked seniors.

Stephanie Watts, Weddington: North Carolina signee is ranked among the nation’s top 50 girls’ players

Grant Williams, Providence Day: 6-7 junior forward was all-state and Observer CISAA Player of the Pear as a soph.
