Observer Sweet 16 Prep Basketball Polls 12.08.14

West Charlotte’s boys and Myers Park’s girls maintained their grips on the Observer’s Sweet 16 boys’ and girls’ basketball polls this week.

West Charlotte fended off challenges from two ranked teams – No. 13 Harding and No. 11 Berry – to remain in the top spot over North Mecklenburg and Providence Day. Charlotte Catholic (4-1) joined the boys’ poll this week after victories against Butler and Myers Park, which were both top-eight teams last week. Butler fell to 10th. Myers Park lost twice and fell to 16th.

In the girls’ poll, Myers Park lost at Blackman (Tenn), the only team to beat the Mustangs the past two seasons. Blackman finished first in MaxPreps’ national poll last season. The top nine spots remained the same. Three teams joined the poll: Hickory Ridge at No. 13, Rocky River at No. 14 and 3-0 A.L. Brown at No. 15.
