No. 5 Ardrey Kell boys (12-1, 3-0 SoMeck 8 4A) at Providence (6-5, 0-2), Tues., 7:30 p.m.: The Knights won last week’s Hoodies House Classic and have won 11 straight games, one short of the school record. They have a one-game conference lead over Charlotte Catholic (11-2, 2-1), Berry (10-3, 2-1) and Olympic (11-2, 2-1) in what looks like a tight race for the title.
Providence (6-5, 0-2) has won more games than any Panthers team since an 18-10 season in 2009-10. In the four seasons after that, the Panthers were 12-88. In this comeback season, second-year coach Scott Taylor’s team hunts a big upset against an arch rival Tuesday night.
Cuthbertson boys (9-3, 0-0 Southern Carolina 3A) at No. 15 Weddington (11-2, 0-0), Tues, 7:30 p.m.: Union County rivals met for the N.C. 3AA football regional championship a few weeks back, which Weddington won on the road, and now will meet in a big basketball game among league favorites. Cuthbertson has dropped two of its past three. Weddington has won nine straight.
Porter Ridge girls (8-3, 2-0 Southwestern 4A) at No. 1 Myers Park (10-1, 2-0), Tues., 6 p.m.: Porter Ridge has won five of its past six games and gets a big shot at the conference favorite. Myers Park has won five straight and no N.C. team has gotten closer than 14 points.

Concord boys (8-4) at A.L. Brown (3-5), Wed., 7:30 p.m.: Concord has lost two of three heading into Tuesday’s game at Northwest Cabarrus, but will face arch rival A.L. Brown in a big nonconference game. Brown carried a three-game losing streak into Monday’s home game with No. 4 Hough, but the Wonders likely will save their best for their arch rivals Wednesday.
Gaston Day boys (11-4, 2-1 Metrolina Athletic) at Northside Christian (9-5, 3-1), Thurs., 7 p.m.: Gaston Day has won five of six going into Tuesday’s game at SouthLake Christian (6-6, 3-1) and will face three-time reigning state champ Northside on Wednesday in a game with league title implications. Gaston Day and Northside trail Concord First Assembly (11-4, 4-0) and Metrolina Christian (9-7, 4-1) in the standings.
Victory Christian boys (12-5) at Providence Day (11-4), Fri., 7:30 p.m.: Victory Christian is ranked No. 18 among all N.C. teams by MaxPreps, and Providence Day – whose 15 opponents are 165-52 this season – is ranked No. 7. Both teams are private school state championship contenders, and this is the overall game of the week.
