Observer’s Sweet 16 basketball poll 01.05.14

Myers Park’s nationally ranked girls still are No. 1 in the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll, which resumes this week as conference play heats up.

The top six spots remain the same. Two teams join the poll: Ashbrook, which has won five straight, and Mallard Creek, which has won three straight under coach C.J. Johnson.

Ashbrook will play Tuesday at Gaston County rival East Gaston. Mallard Creek will face Mecklenburg County rival Vance.

• The boys’ Sweet 16 poll will be released Fridays throughout the rest of the regular season.
