Charlotte-area high school basketball games of the week

CISAA Conference Play, Tuesday: Charlotte’s oldest private-school league is full of some of the city’s best rivalries. League play starts Tuesday. Charlotte Latin is at Country Day; Covenant Day, a league newcomer, is at Charlotte Christian; and Providence Day visits Cannon School.

No. 1 Ardrey Kell at No. 14 Charlotte Catholic, Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Another Friday night, another big SoMeck 8 challenge for the Knights, who are No. 1 in the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. Well-coached Catholic will look for an upset that would shake up the conference championship race.

No. 7 Hough at No. 3 North Mecklenburg, Friday, 7:30: Another Friday, another big game in Mecklenburg County’s top conference, the MECKA 8. Both teams are battling for a league championship.

No. 2 Providence Day at Charlotte Latin, Friday, 7:30: One of Charlotte’s oldest and more fierce rivalries renews between teams expected to challenge for the CISAA title. Watch for a big-man battle between Latin’s 6-foot-7 Parker Julian and Providence Day’s 6-7 Grant Williams.
