Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 Boys Basketball Poll 01.15.14

No new teams joined the Sweet 16 this week and nationally ranked Ardrey Kell enjoys its second week at No. 1, but there are a lot of teams on long winning streaks:

• At No. 1, Ardrey Kell is ranked No. 50 by USA Today nationally and has won 13 straight games. No. 6 Butler has a matching 13-game win streak of its own.



• At No. 10, Weddington has won 11 straight games.



The top six spots remained the same this week. Robinson moved up a spot to No. 7 and Weddington moved from No. 10 to No. 8. Ashbrook, which has won three straight, is up a spot to No. 10.

*South Pointe self-reported an academically ineligible player to the S.C. High School league that resulted in the forfeiture of three games Thursday. The team, ranked No. 2 in the S.C. 3A coaches poll, went from 9-2 to 6-5.

Note: Eligible teams are in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Union and York counties that do not allow student-athletes to repeat a grade and maintain eligibility once beginning their ninth-grade year.
