Cuthbertson comes charging into Observer Sweet 16 boys basketball poll

Cuthbertson High is in the Sweet 16 this week.

The Cavaliers (14-4) check in at No. 14 after upsetting No. 8 Weddington and ending Weddington’s 14-game win streak. Cuthbertson, coached by Mike Helms, has won five straight games and plays at rival Anson Senior Friday.

Nationally ranked Ardrey Kell, state power Providence Day and 4A state title contender North Meck all remained in the top three spots. Butler jumped two spots to No. 4. Hough also returned to the top 10, moving up four spots to No. 7 after upsetting Robinson, which is No. 9 this week.

Note: Eligible teams are those in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Union and York counties that do not allow student-athletes to repeat a grade and maintain eligibility once beginning their ninth-grade year.
