Concord Robinson’s Lavar Batts, a first-team Charlotte Observer All-Region pick, was named N.C. MVP at the Carolinas Classic at Socastee High School. The game matched some of the top public school seniors in North and South Carolina.

North Carolina won 134-115.

Batts had 16 points and seven of North Carolina’s 10 players scored in double figures. Carter Collins, a Davidson recruit, led North Carolina with 20 points.

Lower Richland’s Clyde Trapp had 28 points to lead South Carolina.

North Carolina: Lavar Batts 16, Carter Collins 20, Patrick Dorsey 19, Alex Reed 18, Moses Wright 10, Schweiger 9, Quay Kimble 10, Tatum 8, Justyn Hamilton 16, Nelson 8.

▪ N.C. Gatorade player of the year Mikayla Boykin, a Duke recruit, scored 15 points to lead the N.C. girls to a 95-67 win. North Carolina led 50-29 at halftime. Freedom’s Ariyanna Williams, an Observer All-Region pick, had 12 points.
