All-America swimmer Julia Menkhaus of Charlotte Catholic has committed to an ACC school


Julia Menkhaus, Charlotte Catholic swimming: USA Swimming Scholastic All-American has committed to Virginia. Menkhaus is a four-time N.C. 4A state champion. She won both the 100 fly and 100 back in her sophomore and junior years, and set the 4A state record in the 100 fly at the 2017 NCHSAA 4A State Championships. She was a natonally ranked gymnast with USA Gymnastics from ages 4-12.

East Rutherford football: offering support to the players and families of Dickinson (TX) High, which has been seriously affected by Hurricane Harvey. East Rutherford is raising money to help support the school and wearing the team’s logo on their helmets.

Aly DeFrancisco, Gaston Day volleyball: 15 assists, six aces, four digs in a 3-0 win over Northside Christian. Gaston Day (10-0) hosts reigning NCISAA 2A state champion Davidson Day Thursday.

Lisandro Lopez, Alexander Central soccer: 3-goal hat trick in a 6-1 win over Bandys. Oscar Lopez had two assists for Alexander (4-1), which hosts Lincolnton Wednesday night.

Ty Owens, Gaston Day soccer: hat trick in a 4-1 win over Northside Christian. Corey Chambers got his fifth shutout of the season.

Zoe Weatherington, Kayla Spangler, Charlotte Country Day volleyball: In a 3-0 win over Hickory Grove, Weatherington had 22 kills, three digs; Spangler had 28 assists, four aces and four digs.

Connor White, Christ The King cross-country: Won a multi-meet at Cannon School Tuesday in a time of 16 minutes, 20.88 seconds, winning by 16 seconds over second place.

Login Williams, Hough volleyball: 23 assists in a 3-0 win over Hopewell.
