NO. 2 MALLARD CREEK MAVERICKS

Head Coach: Clarence (C.J.) Johnson (10th year as Mallard Creek head coach; 201-51 at Mallard Creek).

2017-18 Record: 28-3 (14-0 in the I-Meck 4A conference).

Returning Starters (2): Dazia Lawrence, Sr., PG (5-7); Sydney Hunter, Sr., F (5-11).

Key Newcomers: N/A.

Outlook: The Mavericks are 81-6 in the last three seasons with back-to-back trips to the 4A state semifinals in the last two years. This year will be a new challenge with seniors in all-state point guard Dazia Lawrence (17 ppg, 5 rpg, 5 apg, Charlotte 49ers’ commit) and forward Sydney Hunter (7 ppg, 9 rpg, Winthrop University commit) back to lead a younger team. While their roster is different, the championship goals (I-Meck, 4A state) remain the same for a team will be tough to beat in February and March with their experience and leadership.
