The Observer continues its look at preseason ranked teams in the Sweet 16. The order will be revealed Sunday, Nov. 11

NO. 12 BUTLER BULLDOGS

Head Coach: Mark Sanders (9th year as Butler head coach).

2017-18 Record: 18-10 (8-4 in the Southwestern 4A).

Returning Starters (4): Michaela Lane, Jr., G/F (6-1); Michaela Dixon, Sr., G/F (5-10); Payton Sutton, Jr., PG (5-6); Renee Kennedy, Sr., SG (5-7).

Other Key Returning Players: Ashlynn Dotson, Jr., G (5-6); Micahla Funderburk, Jr., SG (5-10).

Outlook: The Bulldogs return four starters from a team that won 18 games a year ago. Butler will will need 6-foot-1 junior forward Michaela Lane (13 ppg, 10 rpg), senior guard, Renee Kennedy (9 ppg) and junior point guard Payton Sutton (8 ppg, 5 apg, 5 spg) to play lead roles for the Bulldogs to be serious Southwestern 4A (SW4A) conference contenders. Butler will be a tough playoff matchup with their combination of experience and versatility throughout the lineup.
