Berry High’s Andrew Howard will not return as head football coach next season.
Via text message, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools director of athletics Sue Doran confirmed the move to the Observer. A source told the newspaper that Howard would be promoted to the athletics director position, but Doran said, for now, Howard is working with Berry’s interim AD, Amanda Del Buono, until an AD is named at the school.
Howard did not return several messages and texts left by the Observer.
Berry’s football team was 5-6 last season under Howard, who has coached at the school since 2007. Howard’s career record at Berry was 42-61. Howard produced three straight winning seasons from 2009-11 with the 2010 team going 11-3 and reaching the third round of the playoffs.
