Former Garinger High boys basketball coach Carlton Anthony is the new coach at Anson Senior, he tells the Observer.

Anson Senior, in Wadesboro, is no longer in the Observer’s primary coverage area but plays in a conference with several Union County area teams that are, including Weddington and Marvin Ridge. That conference is called the Southern Carolinas.

Anson was 9-15 last season under Brandon Rains, but was 18-10 two years ago.

Anthony coached Garinger for one season in the 2014-15 season, going 4-19. He was then Garinger’s fifth coach in seven seasons. Prior to coaching at Garinger, Anthony coached at Berry and Vance.

A former point guard at Olympic and Livingstone College, Anthony started working at Vance in 1999, and he later replaced state championship-winning coach Kurt Wessler.
