Charlotte Knights shut out in first game of doubleheader against Gwinnett Braves

Matt Wisler and Evan Phillips combined for a shutout as the Gwinnett Braves defeated the Charlotte Knights 6-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Wisler (3-4) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing six hits over six scoreless innings. Carson Fulmer (6-4) went 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs and six hits in the International League game. He also struck out three and walked five.

Gwinnett scored three runs in the third on a two-run double by Dustin Peterson and an RBI single by Jace Peterson. The Braves scored again in the fifth inning, when D. Peterson hit a two-run double and then scored on a triple by Matt Tuiasosopo.

D. Peterson doubled twice, driving in four runs in the win.

The Knights were blanked for the eighth time this season, while the Braves' staff recorded their sixth shutout of the year.

The second game of the doubleheader was still in progress as of midnight.
