A wild pitch allowed the Gwinnett Braves to pull even in the ninth inning Thursday night, but Kevan Smith brought home the game-winner with one out in the 10th to give the Charlotte Knights a 2-1 Class AAA International League victory at BB&T BallPark.
Charlotte carried a 1-0 lead into the ninth, and Tommy Kahnle replaced Michael Ynoa on the mound for the Knights.
Chase d’Arnaud started the Gwinnett ninth with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. One out later, d’Arnaud stole third and scored on another wild pitch. Tyler Moore walked, but Ronnier Mustelier’s double-play grounder ended any further threat.
In Charlotte’s 10th, Matt Davidson coaxed a leadoff walk. Jason Coats sacrificed pinch-runner Leury Garcia to second, and Brandon Cunniff intentionally walked J.B. Shuck.
