Durham recovers after late Charlotte rally

The Charlotte Knights rallied for two runs in the eighth inning Wednesday night to pull even with Durham, but the Bulls pushed one run across in the 10th to take a 3-2 Class AAA International League baseball victory at BB&T BallPark.

Mayo Acosta singled to open the 10th for Durham and Juniel Querecuto sacrificed pinch-runner Johnny Field to second. After Eury Perez walked, the Knights brought in Tommy Kahnle to replace reliever Will Lamb.

Kahnle struck out Jake Hager, but Jake Goebbert singled to center to score Field. Kahnle escaped further damage by getting Richie Shaffer to fly out.

In the bottom of the inning, Charlotte got Jacob May to third after a single, a stolen base and a wild pitch. Jason Bourgeois struck out and Jerry Sands flied out to end the threat.

In the eighth, Bourgeois singled in Jacob May and Carlos Sanchez to get Charlotte even.

Third baseman Matt Davidson and infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia will represent the Knights at the Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game on July 13 at BB&T BallPark in uptown Charlotte. Davidson and Garcia are among the 30 players named to the International League All-Star team.

Davidson is a three-time Triple-A All-Star. This season, he is hitting .268 with 20 doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. Garcia is hitting .310 with four doubles, two triples, two home runs, 18 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
