Matchup to Watch

Al Jefferson vs. Marc Gasol: Jefferson got in a very good offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter against Boston’s Tyler Zeller Wednesday. Gasol is one of the league’s top post defenders, so it doesn’t figure to be so easy Friday.

Observations

• The Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors are the only two teams in the NBA that are top six in both fewest points allowed (99.9 per game) and most points scored (107.4 per game).

• The Hornets lost a close one at home to the Grizzlies last month in a strangely low-scoring match-up (71-69).

Tap-ins

• Gasol has scored 30 or more points four times already this season. He had one game of 30 or more points in his previous six NBA seasons.

• Watch out for Zach Randolph on the offensive boards – Randolph leads the NBA in second-chance points at 4.4 per game, and the Hornets have been susceptible to giving up put-backs.

Memphis’ Dave Joerger won three Western Conference Coach of the Month awards in his first seven months as an NBA head coach.
