The Carolina Panthers will work out former Southern Cal wide receiver Nelson Agholor on Thursday at Agholor’s high school in Tampa, Fla.

Former South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia, who will throw to Agholor, confirmed the workout.

Agholor, 6-foot and 198 pounds, caught 179 passes for 2,571 yards and 20 touchdowns during three seasons with the Trojans. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds at the combine but dislocated a finger during the receiving drills in Indianapolis.

He was able to participate in the Trojans’ pro day last month and has been working out with Garcia in their Tampa hometown during recent weeks.

“He’s an extremely hard worker,” Garcia said. “He’s very smart. I was very shocked at how much football knowledge he has. I guess that’s what Southern Cal does.”

Most draft analysts view Agholor as a slot receiver in the NFL and project him as a late first- or second-round prospect.

The Panthers, who will pick 25th, signed two wideouts during free agency – Jarrett Boykin and Ted Ginn Jr., who returns to Carolina after a disappointing year in Arizona.

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman found the team’s No.1 receiver in last year’s draft when he took Kelvin Benjamin with the 28th pick. Gettleman has said this year’s receiving group compares favorably with last year’s.
