Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton now says he let people down at his Super Bowl 50 postgame news conference, according to ESPN’s David Newton.

“The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself,” Newton told Ebony in the magazine’s latest edition. “I’m doing it for [my fans and family] and I felt like I let them down.”

Newton gave short answers to questions after the 24-10 loss to Denver and then walked out on reporters.

“I just wasn’t ready to talk,” Newton added. “Was I mad? Hell, yeah! But there could have been a better way to control it ...”
