Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera didn’t have a chance to meet with Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith before, during or immediately after the game, but he made sure to go to the Ravens’ locker room later Sunday afternoon.
Rivera said Monday that he shook hands with Smith and had a “very quick” conversation, because he wanted to express his respect for the former 13-year Panthers’ receiver who was cut from the team this spring.
“Well, first of all I’m not a sore loser,” said Rivera of why he sought out Smith. “Second, I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for who Steve is and what Steve has done for this team and for me personally. I just wanted to make sure he knew I appreciated it.”
Smith caught seven passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns against his former team.
