The Carolina Panthers didn’t have to issue a typical Wednesday injury report since they play on Monday rather than Sunday, but every player except Bené Benwikere practiced in some capacity.
The rookie corner and starting nickel was the only player on the exercise bike for the portion of practice open to the media. He suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 5 against Chicago and has not practiced since.
“Being a corner/nickel, like a running back, you need your legs,” Rivera said. “Watching him (Tuesday) on the treadmill, the side shuffle stuff and the backpedal stuff looked pretty fluid. But the straight-ahead was hard on him. He got out there (Wednesday) and ran a little bit, looked OK but not close to where you need him right now.”
Colin Jones and James Dockery continued to get work at nickel in place of Benwikere. Safety Thomas DeCoud was back at practice after missing last week’s game with a hamstring injury and said he felt great.
