Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart suffered a minor hip injury during Sunday’s 41-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints and was limited at Wednesday’s practice.
Rivera said it was a precautionary move and that Stewart should practice Thursday.
Fellow running back DeAngelo Williams missed another practice with a broken bone in his right hand. He hasn’t played or practiced since injuring his hand against Minnesota two weeks ago.
“He hasn’t tried to catch the ball,” Rivera said. “That’ll be the big test when they start throwing the ball and see how he handles that.”
Also sitting out of practice was guard Chris Scott (foot), guard Amini Silatolu (knee) and center Ryan Kalil (veteran day).
Along with Stewart, Olsen (knee) and linebacker A.J. Klein (knee) were limited.
“A.J. actually went out and did a little more than we expected him to do,” Rivera said. “He seemed to turn the page (Tuesday). He came in, did a workout and they felt really good.”
Pro Bowl update: Middle linebacker Luke Kuechly remained the leading Pro Bowl vote-getter at inside linebacker after another week of fan voting.
Kuechly has received 247,919 votes from fans so far for the Pro Bowl. He’s one of three Panthers in the top 10 of voting.
Olsen is fifth for tight ends and Kalil is seventh for centers. Kuechly went to his first Pro Bowl last season, Olsen is searching for his first and Kalil has been to four.
