Over the weekend, Panthers center Ryan Kalil posted a video on social media that spoofs Cam Newton’s infamous Instagram birthday video that came out earlier this year.
Newton used 2 Chainz “Birthday Song” in his video, and Kalil does the same. Tight end Greg Olsen also joins in on the fun.
While Newton’s video was big budget, using a production crew to make a big budget music video to document an expensive getaway in Central America, Kalil’s is much more low tech, and intentionally so, but every bit as much fun.
Kalil said the video was shot at Lake Toxaway in Transylvania County, NC, about a three-hour drive from Charlotte.

“We shot it the last day of the camp trip,” Kalil said. “And then I edited on my phone when we got back. It should be an iPhone ad actually. We shot it all on the iPhone and edited it on the iPhone.”
Asked about Olsen’s involvement, Kalil said, “if you know Greg, he was perfect for that role. It couldn’t have worked out any better.”
And in true Weird Al Yankovic fashion, Kalil’s video has a finger-pointing good time poking fun at Newton’s, matching it scene-for-scene and displaying it in a split screen. Kalil posted it with a tag: “Cam forgot to invite us to his birthday getaway so we didn't invite him on our camping trip. #WeHadMoreFun‘’
