The trash talk between Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan has been well-documented. Now there’s ... well, actual documentation of the rivalry’s latest iteration.
After the Saints beat the Panthers 31-26 on Sunday and eliminated Carolina from the playoffs, Jordan was asked about Newton and his performance in the locker room. His response, as has been the case this season, was to continue going after the Panthers quarterback.
“You beat the Carolina Panthers three times in a year, I’m gonna have to send this guy a wine bottle,” Jordan said of Newton, gesturing at a bottle of wine in his locker. “I appreciate him for being that good ol’ quarterback. I’m gonna send him a nice little bottle of Jordan wine.
“No, it’s not mine, but I have been drinking it for years. So, I’m going to send him some sauce.”
Talking is one thing, but actually following through is another. On Monday morning, Jordan posted a photo to his Instagram story of him mailing a bottle of wine to Newton. There’s a laughing emoji and a shocked emoji on the photo as well, plus the caption, “Who would I be if I didn’t follow through with my word?”
The beef between Newton and Jordan started in Week 3 of this season, when the Saints beat the Panthers 34-13 at Bank of America Stadium. After that game, Jordan was asked about Newton’s performance.
“Clearly he’s trying to be more of a pocket passer and I’m OK with it,” Jordan said at the time. “Perfectly fine with it. I mean there was one time he scooted off for 13 yards and it was very Cam-esque, but at the same time he wanted to be a pocket passer.
“Our coach gave up some egregious stat (about Cam’s turnovers) and we added three onto that.”
Jordan then went on to insult Newton’s wardrobe, for which he has become famous in post-game interviews.
“Anytime he tried to scoot out, we showed up on his high heels. Not that he wears high heels – I don’t think so yet, right?” Jordan said at the time. “I mean, he’s gone with the grandma hat and the onesie. The Coachella onesie?”
Before the teams’ second meeting, Newton remarked that he would send Jordan “some sauce” to help fix Jordan’s wardrobe, which explains Jordan’s remark from Sunday.
Jordan’s trash talk didn’t end with just Newton, though. He also took the chance to pick on Panthers tackle Matt Kalil, who he blew past for a sack during Sunday’s playoff game.
“I was actually talking more to the other Kalil brother,” Jordan said of Matt Kalil. “I don’t know his first name, Speedbump. Let’s call him Speedbump McGee. That guy.”
