The Panthers have waived/injured wide receiver Stephen Hill, a day after Hill sustained a season-ending knee injury during Saturday's first full-pads practice.

Panthers assistant head coach Steve Wilks said Hill tore the ACL in his right knee. When Wilks was asked if any other ligaments were damaged, a Panthers spokesman said the team would have an update later Sunday.

To fill Hill's roster spot, the Panthers signed undrafted rookie wideout Paul Browning. The 6-2, 218-pound Browning participated in the Browns' rookie minicamp in the spring after winning a Division II national title at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Hill, the former Jets' second-round pick, had a rough week.

He was charged with possession of marijuana paraphernalia Tuesday after police stopped him in Concord for a seat belt violation. Hill was competing for one of the Panthers' last receiving spots after spending last season on the team's practice squad when the Jets cut him.
