The status of Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly for Sunday's game against Houston remains in question after the two-time Pro Bowler missed a second consecutive day of practice Thursday.

Kuechly remains in the concussion protocol after making an awkward, head-first hit on Jacksonville running back T.J. Yeldon in the first half of the Panthers' Week 1 win.

Kuechly was not on the practice field Thursday during the 20 minutes open to the media. He watched Wednesday's drills from the sideline and Panthers coach Ron Rivera indicated Kuechly had worked out in the weight room at some point Wednesday.

A.J. Klein, who made six tackles after he replaced Kuechly against the Jaguars, would start against the Texans if Kuechly is not cleared.
