Panthers center Ryan Kalil out vs. Colts

Carolina Panthers guard Trai Turner (70), center Ryan Kalil (67) and guard Andrew Norwell (68) get into formation against the Philadelphia Eagles defense in Charlotte on Oct. 25. Working with the veteran Kalil, the guards have helped generate the league’s best rushing offense.

The Panthers will be without Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil against Indianapolis on Monday night when Kalil sits with an ankle injury.

Veteran Fernando Velasco will start in place of Kalil, who was listed as doubtful after getting hurt against Philadelphia last week and missing every practice before the Colts game.

Chris Scott took snaps behind Velasco, but the Panthers also could slide right tackle Mike Remmers to center if Velasco were to struggle or get injured.

It's the first time Kalil has been sidelined since 2012 when he missed the final 11 games following foot surgery.

Rookie linebacker Shaq Thompson also will be out against the Colts. Thompson, the first-round pick from Washington, missed last week's game against the Eagles and was listed as doubtful for Monday.

The Panthers’ other inactives Monday include injured pass rush specialists Dwan Edwards and Mario Addison and three healthy scratches -- wideout Kevin Norwood, safety Dean Marlowe and running back Brandon Wegher.
