Carolina Panthers rookies Shaq Thompson and Devin Funchess don’t need everyone to tell them that this kind of season doesn’t happen often.
But everyone is still telling them that.
Thompson and Funchess, the Panthers’ top two draft picks from 2015, have experienced the most wins in Panthers’ history and the franchise’s second trip to the Super Bowl in its 21-year existence.
“Everybody on the team made it clear it doesn’t happen,” said Thompson, who was almost exhausted by the thought of the question from a reporter. “(Thomas Davis) is in his 12th year. Jared (Allen) is somewhere up there. This is the first Super Bowl for T.D. I know it doesn’t happen often but I have to embrace it as a rookie. We’re not done. We have one more.”

Funchess said he’s had so much fun this year he sometimes thinks the Panthers are 18-0 instead of 17-1.
“I went in there and had a lot of fun,” Funchess said. “I had so much fun that I forgot that we actually lost one game this season. It feels like we went undefeated throughout the whole thing. Just getting here and being in this moment has been amazing and a blessing in itself.”
