Carolina Panthers defensive end Wes Horton tweeted Friday he signed a one-year deal to remain with the team.
“No way I could walk away from an organization as special as this,” Horton tweeted. “Back to Cali for now.”
Horton signed a three-year, $1.495 million deal with Carolina before the 2013 season. Financial terms of this deal were not available.
Horton had three sacks in 2014 when he started in 15 games while Greg Hardy was on the commissioner’s exempt list. He appeared in just eight games with two starts in 2015.
Horton was suspended four games in 2015 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The Panthers eventually brought him back to the practice squad late in the season.
