This year’s version of pre-camp training for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers apparently involves beach volleyball.

Newton and several of his pass-catchers have spent the past two nights playing volleyball in Baltimore, where they’ve gathered this weekend to work at and around the Under Armour facilities for their annual training session.

Baltimore Beach uploaded photos to its Facebook Tuesday night of the Panthers’ receivers and tight ends joining patrons for a second night of sand volleyball.

Receivers there include Newton’s top three receivers: Kelvin Benjamin, Ted Ginn Jr., Devin Funchess. There’s also Damiere Byrd, Avius Capers, Stephen Hill, Miles Shuler and Tobias Palmer.

Tight end Greg Olsen made the trip along with seventh-round pick Beau Sandland, Scott Simonson and Braxton Deaver.

Though he’s the MVP of the NFL, Newton didn’t seem to be the MVP of the court in at least one video.

This pre-training camp session dates back to Steve Smith’s days in Carolina when he took a similar-sized group to Greensboro to train at receivers coach Ricky Proehl’s Proehlific Park. Newton continued that tradition in 2014 in Greensboro, and last year he took the trip north to Baltimore.

The Panthers report to training camp on July 27, with their first practice coming the next day.
