As the Carolina Panthers made the defensive tackle position one of their strengths, Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner licked his chops.

The third-year right guard will be going up against Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei again this training camp, but also first-round pick Vernon Butler and free-agent acquisition Paul Soliai.

“I can’t wait because I know two things for sure: I can’t wait to kick some butt,” Turner said. “And I can’t wait to just get better with those guys. I know they’re guys that are going to make me better, keep going forward and continue to have the success that I want to have.”

Turner said he’s looking forward to the one-on-one drills with those players later in camp. The Panthers won’t get into pads until later in the weekend, but those one-on-ones are sure to be a main attraction of camp.

“It’s very competitive. You’re dealing with guys who do not like to lose. Period,” Turner said. “And you’re showcasing your talent in front of your group, so you always want to come out on top.”
