Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei did not participate in team drills at Thursday night’s practice because of a tight hamstring.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera called Lotulelei sitting out of drills as precautionary after the former first-round pick felt his hamstring tighten up after Wednesday’s conditioning drills.

Lotulelei did some individual and positional drills, and on two occasions he worked on the side along with defensive end Charles Johnson.

Carolina rotated defensive tackles in his stead. Kawann Short remained with the first team but he played alongside rookie first-rounder Vernon Butler and Kyle Love.

Carolina Panthers fans lined up outside Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College anxiously waiting for the team's first practice of training camp on Thursday.
