If spending $19.99 on an official Wilson NFL football sounds passé, take heart: You can bid on 50 “bespoke designer,” one-of-a-kind footballs the NFL is auctioning off in honor of Super Bowl 50.
The league teamed with the Council of Fashion Designers of America to create 50 custom footballs. They’re made by various fashion designers, such as Melissa Joy Manning, Detroit-based Shinola and Nicole Miller. Some feature bright paint, splashy colors or metal spikes, while one is a crystal ball made of 17,500 Swarovski crystals.
Proceeds will benefit the NFL Foundation, but the price won’t count as a charitable donation, the NFL said. The NFL Foundation is the league’s nonprofit arm, which supports youth football and causes related to athletes’ health, safety and wellness.
You can see and bid on all of the footballs online here. Most bids start at $500, though some custom footballs are already up to $1,100 or more.
