If the path to Super Bowl 50 runs through small towns north of Charlotte, on N.C. Hwy. 16, Panthers fans may take it as a good omen that a road sign on the rural route shows Newton with an advantage over Denver.

A photo posted on Facebook by a Carolina Panthers fan Tuesday exploded on social media with Cam Newton supporters saying the highway sign looks a lot like a stadium scoreboard with the Panthers – specifically their star quarterback – leading the Broncos, 20 to 7.

In less than 24 hours, the photo – initially published by Jason Smith, a Charlotte resident, according to Facebook – was shared on social media more than 15,700 times.

The sign is on N.C. Hwy. 16, seven miles away from the small town of Denver, N.C. and 20 miles away from Newton, N.C.
