Swedish golfer Jenny Haglund gets splashed with water after winning the Symetra Classic at River Run Country Club in Davidson in a Saturday playoff with Dottie Ardina of the Philippines.

Jenny Haglund made a 45-foot birdie putt on the first sudden-death playoff hole Saturday and won the Symetra Classic at Davidson’s River Run Country Club.

Haglund’s putt was the difference in the playoff, which she won over first-round leader Dottie Ardina. It was the second career victory for Haglund, a native of Sweden.

Haglund began the day one stroke behind Ardina, who shot a first-round 69 Thursday. Haglund and Ardina were tied after two rounds (the tournament was shortened to 36 holes after rain washed out most of Friday’s play) at 4-under, 140 total. Haglund made it a quick playoff, making her birdie putt on the par-5 18th and watching as Ardina missed hers, ending the tournament.

“It’s nice I came out on top this week,” Haglund said. “I didn’t really think it was going to be a playoff. But at the end, I went into my bubble into my warmup and went out.”

Prima Thammaraks and Pavarisa Yoktuan, who are both from Thailand, tied for third, two shots behind the leaders.

Charlotte’s Laura Wearn (146) finished tied for 16th, six shots behind the leaders. Concord Cannon School freshman Amanda Sambach shot a 2-over 74 in the second round and missed the cut.
