The United Soccer League’s Charlotte Independence will play Swansea City of the English Premier League in a pro soccer friendly July 13 at Ramblewood Soccer Complex.
The Swans will also play the USL’s Richmond Kickers on July 16 during an 11-day training camp that will be based in Washington.
Swansea finished 12th in last season’s EPL standings with 47 points (12-15-11).
The Welsh club has recently been taken over by an American investment group led by Jason Levien (owner of Major League Soccer’s D.C. United) and Steve Kaplan (executive vice president of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies). England’s Guardian newspaper reports that Levien and Kaplan will have 60 percent control of the club, although the deal must still be approved by England’s Football Association.
The Independence (5-3-3) is tied for fifth in the USL’s Eastern Conference and plays Bethlehem (Pa.) Steel FC at Ramblewood on Friday.
