Outdoors events calendar for 01.01.15

Through Thursday: Central N.C. and Northwestern N.C. regular gun deer season.

Thursday: Polar Bear Bass Fishing Tournament, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Based at McCrary Creek Access area near Queens Landing on N.C. 150 west of Mooresville. Entry fee $50 per two-person team. Payback is 100 percent of entry fees.

Through Jan. 15: Second segment of N.C. dove season.

Through Jan. 15: Third segment of S.C. dove season.

Through Jan. 24: Brant season in North Carolina.

Through Feb. 28: Statewide N.C. hunting season for gray and red squirrels, grouse, raccoon, opossum, quail and rabbit.

Saturday: Free fly-fishing clinic, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center, Fayetteville. Sponsored by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Subsequent clinics are scheduled for the same hours Jan. 17, Jan. 31 and Feb. 14. Clinics for Boy Scouts are Feb. 28 and March 14. Information: 910-868-5003.

Jan. 15: N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission public hearing on hunting and fishing regulations for 2015, 7 p.m., The Walker Center, Wilkes Community College, 1328 S. Collegiate Drive, Wilkesboro.
