John Daly has never let professional golf stand in the way of his having a good time.
Daly had an 8:20 a.m. tee time Thursday at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club for the first round of the PGA Championship. Wednesday night he was captured on multiple Twitter feeds singing with Darius Rucker.
Daly, 51, has won two major championships, a British Open (1995) and a PGA Championship (1991). He has also lived a colorful life that has included four marriages.
Daly loves to sing: He once did backup vocals for Kid Rock and has recorded two albums.
According to Twitter accounts, Daly even went solo when hanging out with Rucker, singing Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”
Rucker, born and raised in Charleston, S.C., was the lead singer for rock band “Hootie and the Blowfish,” with origins in Columbia. He has reinvented himself in recent years as a country music singer.
Rucker is a huge golf fan, who organized a charity pro-am in North Myrtle Beach annually after the Masters. He is close friends with Tiger Woods and has been a guest of the U.S. team at the Ryder Cup.
